NATRE Executive

What is the NATRE Executive?

NATRE works through an Executive of approximately 25 members, including primary teachers, secondary teachers, and co-opted members. Roles on the Executive include Chair, Vice Chair (Primary), Vice Chair (Secondary), Action Group leaders, Assistant to the Chair, Local Groups Officer, NATRE Network Officer, Executive Officer, Projects Officer, and Research Officer.

Members of the Executive are elected for a term of three years and can serve a maximum of two terms, although, in exceptional circumstances, these terms may be extended further.

How does the Executive support RE?

Our Executive works, during and between meetings, on several different areas in support of its development plan. These areas include:

• Training and Professional Development
• Curriculum Development and Assessment
• Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development
• Public Policy and Engagement
• Other issues that require attention

What is the role of the Steering Group?

The Steering Group comprises the Chair, Vice Chairs, Executive action group leaders, the Executive Officer, and the Research Officer. It meets several times during the year to coordinate and support the executive's work.

How often does the Executive meet?

The Executive meets in full at least three times a year to review and discuss policy issues, undertake work in action groups, implement proposals, consult on national policy, review NATRE’s development plan, and receive a report from the Chair and other officers.

What type of activities do members of the Executive take part in?

Executive members are usually actively involved in a Local Group, write for REtoday magazine, and represent NATRE on committees such as the RE Council, the Expert Advisory Group, or the Council for Subject Associations. They are encouraged to serve on their local SACRE or get involved in local or national projects, such as GCSE/GCE reform and Learning Outside the Classroom, providing training for other teachers, or being involved in RE-related research.
