Harmony & a United Community – We Have Far More in Common
We have far more in common with each other than that which divides us. I liked the idea of having everyone equal as it unites people together, feminism and equality. The deepest thing about my work is the quote that I used, it is the meaning of equality in society. the religion that inspired my work was Sikhi, this was because I liked the idea that it is a religion that always involves harmony and the united community. I think my work connects to religion because I like how it shows one race, despite our differences and divisions. I've been investigating the true meaning of equality and Sikh beliefs on feminism and I found a lot of religions don't make people equal: it is mostly the males that are in a higher position but for Sikhs they make women and men have the same last names making no one better than the other. My picture is all about equality and feminism in RE it is good to explore different religion and beliefs so we as people can see the different cultures in our world. I've tried to show my thoughts and feelings by making the skin tone abstract with a variety of colours and not just applying stereotyped skin colour. Doing this work as made me think of the cultures and traditions in the world and how they make people show their beliefs and gratitude. You can see a figure with brightly coloured hair almost in an abstract way with a simple smiley face, the figure wears no clothes as I didn't want it to revolve around one singular religion. Notice the importance of the quote that I used as it would be put into everyday life even when it's not. I like the theme that I've been working on because I liked the idea of everything being equal even when you think you're not.
